Dave has worked with 4 Site Security for six years, and has been responsible for recruitment over the last two. Having joined us as a daytime controller, when his personal circumstances changed, he took up a new opportunity in recruitment. “I’ve always been a people person, so I thought I’d love to give it a go,” says Dave. He says that every day has been different over the last two years, and it’s been a learning curve.
Day-to-day, Dave looks at job openings in the company, such as people retiring or opportunities on new sites, liaising closely with the operations team. He then kickstarts the job advertising process; liaises with applicants; brings candidates in for interview; and continues right through to the vetting stage, getting all the paperwork ready and making sure that everything is in ship shape before it goes off to the screening company. It’s an end-to-end process that culminates in his putting new employees on to the company system.
He likes interviews to be relaxed: “I’ve been in the candidates’ position,” he explains. “Speaking to someone less formally gets the best out of them, enables you to know more about the real person, and to know whether they are a good fit and will enjoy being part of the business. And when they join us, I try to introduce them to as many people as possible so that they feel comfortable and supported from the offset.”
Dave’s favourite thing about working for 4 Site Security is that it has a family run business feel and that it is committed to staff and customers alike with a strong team ethos. He believes that the strong company values help to “energise” the people.
When he’s not at work, Dave enjoys travelling several times a year to the Spanish Costa del Sol with his wife, and spending family time.
We asked Dave: Tell us something about yourself that other people in the company might be surprised by.
He said: “I’m a 3rd dan black belt in karate! But I don’t practice any more (too old). I started by taking my nephews to get them interested, taught kids and adults up to black belt and ran a couple of clubs. My other claim to fame is that a Mensa IQ test once put me in the top 2%. I kept the letter!”
