We are very proud of our people rolling up their sleeves and making a real difference in the community. This month, we are shining a spotlight on our Operations Manager Richard Grundy, who recently dedicated his time to support a fantastic cause close to his heart.

Richard was “on the ground” volunteering for the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2026 where he took on the critical task of managing the bag collection. This wasn't Richard’s first time stepping up to help at the event; he supported the marathon two years ago, working as a course marshal.

As anyone who has ever been involved in a major sporting event knows, the baggage area is the chaotic engine room of the race, and managing the people’s belongings turned out to be a busy and intense day.

Faced with the logistical challenge of working with a limited number of volunteers, Richard had to think on his feet and work quickly and efficiently to keep things moving.

He volunteered his time from 6.00 am right through to 2. 30 pm and managed to clock in an incredible 12,000 steps without even leaving a hot baggage tent!

“Despite the hectic pace and the physical demand, I thoroughly enjoy giving my time to this event,” adds Richard. “I love the vibrant camaraderie of the day and the opportunity to meet both the inspiring competitors and my fellow volunteers.”
